Lake County is a rural residential area encompassing nearly 2,000 square miles. Agriculture and recreation are key sources of economic activity. Wine grapes and pears are the county’s highest valued crops. Walnuts, timber and livestock are also important components of the agricultural business. The established wine growing regions of Napa County and Sonoma County are to the west and south. Tourism is a major contributor with boating, fishing, hunting and outdoor activities. Clear Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake in California is the most prominent natural feature of the area.


Lake County is approximately a two hour drive north from the Bay Area (San Francisco, Oakland, Berkley, etc.), an approximate two hour drive northwest from Sacramento and about an hour and a half from the Pacific Ocean.
